About the Course

 

 

Prepare your teen to step confidently into real childcare responsibilities. This full-day, instructor-led Red Cross course combines Babysitter’s Training with Pediatric CPR/AED & First Aid, giving young caregivers the essential skills to keep infants and children safe.

 

Through hands-on practice, interactive activities, and real-life scenarios, learners build strong readiness skills in:

 

Babysitting & Child Care Skills

  • Holding, feeding, diapering, and comforting infants

  • Caring for toddlers and young children through daily routines

  • Ages, stages, and milestones

  • Positive behavior guidance

  • Choosing age-appropriate toys and activities

  • How to stay calm, confident, and in control

 

Safety & Emergency Preparedness

  • Staying safe inside and outside the home

  • Preventing accidents and identifying hazards

  • Preparing for emergencies and severe weather

  • Understanding when to call 9-1-1

  • Managing stress or feeling overwhelmed

  • Internet, social media, and personal safety

 

Leadership & Professional Skills

  • What it means to be a responsible babysitter

  • Using the Decision-Making Model

  • Interviewing families

  • Understanding expectations and setting boundaries

  • Presenting professionally to earn more opportunities

 

Pediatric CPR, AED, & First Aid

  • Recognizing cardiac emergencies

  • Performing CPR and using an AED on infants and children

  • Choking emergencies

  • Bleeding control & life-threatening emergencies

  • Responding to sudden illnesses (asthma, allergic reactions, seizures, diabetic emergencies, etc.)

  • Responding to injuries and environmental emergencies

 

Certification

Upon successful completion, learners receive:

  • American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Certification (valid 10 years)

  • American Red Cross Pediatric CPR/AED & First Aid Certification (valid 2 years)

Course Format

  • Instructor-led (in person)

  • Approx. 7 hours (including breaks)

  • 12:1 maximum class ratio

  • Monthly sessions, strategically scheduled during school days off

  • Lunch included
